Kilimanjaro Animal Rescue

Why Is An Animal Rescue Needed?

In Tanzania, thousands of animals - especially dogs -suffer on the streets due to neglect, injury, abuse, and lack of medical care. Dogs are often viewed with fear or as disposable, leaving many to starve, become sick, or be injured without anyone to help. There is little infrastructure or support for animal welfare, and veterinary services are limited and often unaffordable.

Kilimanjaro Animal Rescue was born from the understanding that kindness must extend to all living beings. By rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming animals in need, we’re not only giving them a second chance at life, but also nurturing compassion and empathy in our community - especially among the children in our care.

What Do We Do As An Animal Rescue?

Kilimanjaro Animal Rescue offers a safe haven to abused, abandoned, and injured animals - primarily dogs.
Once rescued, each animal receives:

  • Immediate medical attention and care

  • Vaccinations, deworming, and parasite treatment

  • Spaying/neutering to prevent overpopulation

  • Safe shelter, food, and rehabilitation

  • Training and socialization to prepare them for adoption

Beyond the physical rescue, we focus on community education, helping shift public attitudes towards animals through outreach and awareness, especially among youth. We work closely with local partners and veterinary professionals to raise the standard of care and promote animal welfare throughout the region.

Our shelter is also a place of healing and therapy, where children - especially those recovering from trauma - build trust and joy through relationships with animals. These bonds are powerful and transformative for both the children and the animals.

How Can I Share With A Rescued Animal?

Sponsoring a rescue dog is a beautiful way to give an innocent life the care and love it deserves.
As little as £2 a week will support a rescue pup with:

  • Daily food and clean water

  • Veterinary care and medications

  • Shelter, bedding, and safe spaces

  • Staff support and enrichment to help them heal and thrive

You’ll be directly contributing to that dog’s journey from fear to safety - from the streets to a loving forever home. Sponsorships also help us rescue more animals and expand our work.

Every act of sharing - no matter how small - helps build a more compassionate world for both animals and humans.
